Laser Drive History
Laser Drive was founded as a high tech startup in the mid seventies by Mr. Philip Thackray and Mr. Richard Matta. The original operations started in the summer of 1975. Their vision was to develop, manufacture, and distribute small, high voltage switch-mode power supplies for the Helium-Neon Laser market. Their vision was realized when they secured a contract with their first major customer, Hughes Aircraft Company in 1976. Laser Drive continued to grow and was incorporated in the summer of 1976.
Since that time, our product base has expanded to include power supplies for Laser Diodes, Argon Lasers, HeNe Lasers, Capacitor Chargers for Dye and Excimer Lasers, Flash Lamps, Short-Arc Lamps, Deuterium Lamps, Tungsten Lamps and a variety of white light lamp applications. As Laser Drive grows, we continue to introduce new products that serve the Laser and Lighting markets. Our mission is to be a full service provider of power supplies that emphasize the quality, reliability, safety, cost effectiveness, and technical support.
Today, Laser Drive is an innovative and growing company that has been servicing the laser and electro-optic industries for more than thirty years. We are the world leader in the Helium-Neon and Argon Laser power supply markets. Laser Drive is represented internationally, with representation in Europe and Japan. To date, we have manufactured more than two million power supplies. Laser Drive's Quality Management System is ISO9001:2008 certified.
Laser Drive now serves over 300 laser manufacturers and OEM customers world-wide from its 27,000 square foot Gibsonia, PA facility. Many of our products are marketed through major Laser and Lamp manufacturers such as Melles Griot, Hamamatsu, Spectra Physics, JDS Uniphase, National Laser, NEC, PerkinElmer, and Lasos.
